10.00: Free visit of the Corderie Royale, the longest rope factory in Europe in the 17th century (374 m). With its workshops, rope-making facilities, museums, gardens, exhibitions and events, immerse yourself in the history of the extraordinary construction of this 350-year-old building on its oak raft.
11.15am: Crossing the Charente on board the gondola of the "Transporter Bridge". This bridge, built under the direction of engineer Arnodin, was inaugurated in 1900. Made popular by Jacques Demy and his film "Les demoiselles de Rochefort", it is now the last remaining example of this type of metal construction in France.
Afterwards, take a self-guided tour of the "Maison du Transbordeur", where you can learn all about the history of the Transporter Bridge and the major stages in its renovation. In 2024, an exhibition will pay tribute to the inventor of the Transporter Bridge to mark the centenary of his death.
